After that, we chose our obgyn practice -- women caring for women. There's (3) doctors and (3) mid-wives, and both our doctor and genetic counselor gave this practice high marks! We were lucky, and Dr. Shapiro's practice was accepting new patients. SO...we made our first appointment for November 13th :)
I started to have some spotting on Thursday before the appointment, so we were a little bit nervous :( So, at our first appointment, Shawna (one of the mid-wives at the practice) suggest I take a blood test to monitor the levels of the pregnancy hormone, plus go in for an ultrasound to confirm the pregnancy was still viable. Because we were in such an early stage of our pregnancy (~6 weeks), the ultrasound might not be able to pick up a heartbeat.
On November 19th, we had our ultrasound appointment. I had to drink 6 glasses of water before we went in, and sheesh was I ready to go potty!! We were very lucky, and the ultrasound technician not only was able to show us our kidney bean-sized baby, but also found the heartbeat!! Yipee!! Here's the first ultrasound picture of Baby Zygote.
The arrow is pointing to where the heartbeat was on the screen...
